Nevada Senior Services Response to COVID-19 (Updated 8/20/20)

Recently southern Nevada’s spread of COVID-19 appears to be tapering down. This is very good news for our community and for our most vulnerable persons. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), older adults and people who have severe underlying medical conditions like heart or lung disease, or diabetes, seem to be at higher risk for developing serious complications from COVID-19.

We cannot relax our vigilance until this threat to our health and safety is defeated.

There is currently no vaccine to prevent COVID-19. The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to the virus. In general, the more people we interact with, the more closely we interact with them, and the longer we interact, the higher our risk of getting and spreading COVID-19.

We can all do our part to help stop the spread of the disease.

At Nevada Senior Services, we have established safety protocols for our adult day care centers and for visits in homes. Facial coverings are required in our buildings and for all in-person interactions. We’ve installed plexiglass shields in our adult day care centers to protect our participants and staff, and to facilitate safe face-to-face counseling. Surfaces are frequently disinfected and signage is placed throughout the building to remind participants and staff of safe practices.

Recently, we continue to improve our on-campus procedures and training, promising to adhere to recommended practices to keep our staff, visitors and participants safe.

We have developed virtual programs for participants and family caregivers to attend activities, remain connected and receive support. Telephone reassurance calls are made by familiar voices to our participants and family caregivers. You can find out how to access virtual programs on our website or by checking in with your favorite Nevada Senior Services staff member.

As a reminder, here are some everyday preventive actions we can all take to keep ourselves and others safe:
